Modern Design and Bismark Builders have jointly won the 2017 Master Design Award for Best kitchen remodeling over $150,000. The 39th annual competition was sponsored by national magazine Qualified Remodeler. Hundreds of top remodeling teams from around the country vied for the national honors, which were published in the magazine’s September issue. The judges recognized Modern Design and Bismark Builders and awarded them the highest honor of GOLD in the kitchen category.
Modern Design’s interior designer Amber Ranzau, allied member ASID, and project supervisor David Hoen, worked closely with Michael Bismark of Bismark Builders to lay out the space and design the intricate curved cabinetry in the showcase kitchen. The project was the centerpiece of a whole house, multi-year restoration of the gated Dellwood country home once owned by railroad baron James J. Hill.
The cabinetry features intricate molding details, curved doors, custom corbels and a hand-glazed enamel finish. Modern Design adapted the cabinets and trim to appear square despite the irregularities of the century-old structure’s out of level concrete floors, ceilings and walls.
