Amber Ranzau ASID’s top Emerging Talent
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) honored Modern Design’s Amber Ranzau on Nov. 12 with its 2015 Emerging Talent Award (and a huge bouquet of roses). She was chosen from among hundreds of interior designers who are members of the Minnesota ASID Chapter and received design degrees in the past 10 years.
The Emerging Talent Award is given annually to the member who most demonstrated creativity and professionalism and who had supported ASID through committee involvement and event participation. Peer judges considered letters of recommendation and Amber’s body of work, which can be seen on Houzz and the Modern Design website.
Amber joined Modern Design in March 2012. As interior designer, she usually is the first person to meet with new custom cabinetry clients. Her work includes sketching concepts, creating preliminary AutoCAD drawings, space planning and helping with selections for finishes, colors, fixtures, appliances, surfaces and hardware.
Modern Design owners Troy and Jo Eiden wrote the judges: “Amber has been such an asset to our team. We see proof of her talent every day in the great work she does! Her skill set is amazing. She is so creative and artistic. She keeps up with the latest design trends. Our clients love working with her! We have eight draftsmen and an extremely fast-paced environment. The projects go so much smoother with Amber. She has helped to make our process more organized and professional.”
Amber graduated from the Art Institutes International MN, in 2007 with a BS in interior design. While in college, she interned at HautHaus and went on to work there as an interior design assistant for several years before moving to Modern Design.
Amber received the Emerging Talent Award at the chapter’s annual ASID Awards Gala. She had served on the Gala planning committee for five years and chaired the committee for two years. She also volunteered on ASID Showcase House projects for three years.
Amber says the most satisfying part of being an interior designer at Modern Design is listening to what clients want to achieve and figuring out ways to incorporate all of the goals in the new space. She also enjoys finding fun hardware and suggesting new ways to use materials, such as applying wallpaper to the backs of cabinets or on ceilings.
